Bivariate data consists of two variables, usually X and Y, where X is the independent variable and Y is the dependent variable. Bivariate data analysis determines whether a change in the value of one variable affects the other and it most commonly involves covariance and correlation. We use a scatter plot to show the data graphically and a regression line, or line of best fit, to estimate the value of the dependent variable Y given a value for X.
