9.2 Linear Inequalities
Solving a linear inequality means finding a value for x that makes the inequality true.
Enter the inequalities as given in the problem with one inequality per line.
Examples
Solve each linear inequality.
1) 2x + 3(x – 1) > 5
2) 3x – 4 < 5
3) 2(x – 3) > 5(x + 1)
4) 0.25x – 1.25 < 1.2x + 2(x – 1)
5) 1/2x + 5 ≠ –2x – 1
Calculator solutions
1) Enter the expression: 2x + 3(x – 1) > 5.
Type the greater than sign ( > ) by tapping the closed parentheses " ) " three times.
2) Enter the expression: 3x – 4 < 5.
Type the less than sign ( < ) by tapping the open parentheses " ( " three times.
3) Enter the expression: 2(x – 3) > 5(x + 1) as "2(x – 3) >= 5(x + 1)"
Type the greater than or equal to sign ( > ) by first typing the greater than sign and then the equals sign " >= ".
4) Enter the expression: 0.25x – 1.25 < 1.2x + 2(x – 1) as "0.25x – 1.25 <= 1.2x + 2(x – 1)."
Type the less than or equal to sign ( < ) by first typing the less than sign and then the equals sign " <= ".
5) Enter the expression: 1/2x + 5 ≠ –2x – 1 as "1/2x + 5 <> –2x – 1."
Type the inequality sign by first typing the less than sign " < " and then the greater than sign " > " to get "< >".
